Gilean Ann Newman
February 10, 1977 - October 22, 2002
Gilean was raised on a ranch north of Ingomar, Montana. She went to grade school in Ingomar and high school in Melstone, Montana, where she graduated in 1995. While in school she was active in 4-H, FFA, BPA, basketball, track and rodeo. She was also a member of the National Honor Society.
Following high school she attended Miles Community College on a basketball scholarship. While at MCC she was a member of the Rodeo Team. She then went to Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Oklahoma. Gil rodeoed for the University for the next two years. She graduated from college in 2000 with a Degree in Animal Science.
After college her first job was with the USTRC in Albuquerque, New Mexico. That job led her to the AQHA in Amarillo, Texas. She was the Director of the Recreational Riding Program for the United States for two years.
While in Amarillo Gil met her future fiancé, Scott Salo, and moved to Torrington, Wyoming. Gil went to work for Wrangler as a Merchandising Rep. She had her life dream with Scott. They loved the same things: roping, rodeos, ranching, and their horses.
