The MHSRA has teamed up with the Montana Tobacco Use Prevention Program as well as The Sports Flash to create the Montana REACT Tobacco Free Rodeo All-Stars. The REACT Tobacco Free Rodeo All-Stars campaign honors the best male and female rodeo competitors who have pledged to live tobacco-free. The American Heart Association is offering a $500 scholarship for the male and female REACT Tobacco Free Rodeo All-Star of the Year. The Montana High School Rodeo Association would like to thank the RIM Ranch Jr. Rodeo for their generous support of the 2008 Montana High School National Rodeo Team. The RIM Ranch Jr. Rodeo was held last August at the Majestic Valley Arena in Kalispell. They donated their profits of $3800 to the team that attended the High School Rodeo National Finals in Farmington, NM in July of this year. Again, a BIG THANK YOU to the RIM Ranch Jr. Rodeo for supporting the Montana members representing our state and association.

Second semester grades must be turned at check-in at the State Finals Rodeo in Helena. No grades, no rodeo, no exceptions!
LINE ADS - Line Ads (in the past has been Brand Ads) are due in the State Office before May 10th. The line ads will include the line ad, example( good luck Mary Jones at the State Rodeo), the name and address of the person or business purchasing the ad. Please DO NOT submit any line ads that include "brands" as they WILL NOT be published in the State program. Members must sell $50 in ads to collect any travel money to SSIR Rodeo, Fallon NV. or National Finals, Farmington NM. Members can mail line ads and money to the State Office. The line ads must be legible to be printed in the program; if we can't read them, they will not be printed. CONTESTANT ATTIRE - NHSRA Rule book, page 25 (1), Contestant parent, adults, helpers and assistants must wear western attire: western hat, long sleeved shirt (must be wrist length sleeved shirt, with collar and cuffs. No sweat shirts, T-shirts or pullover sweaters allowed), western boots, and western trousers at all time during a performance while in the following areas: the arenas, chute area, stock working areas. Any contestant in any seating area, whether competing or not.
Call Backs - Call backs are on Thursday after entry for a rodeo. At call back, you may draw out of that rodeo or confirm your entry. If you drive to a rodeo and are not listed on the program, the local secretary will confirm with your call back number and you will be allowed to rodeo. If you did not call back for that rodeo and are not listed in the program, you will not participate. Entries and call backs are recorded.
Turn Out Charge - A turn out charge of $10 per rodeo will be charged in addition to fees to that rodeo. Turn out charges must be paid before rodeoing again.
Bad Checks - There will be a $25 charge for issuing a NSF check at a rodeo and after one time the member will be on a cash only basis, with their name on list to all rodeo secretaries.
Medical Insurance - If you are hurt at a rodeo, get a claim form from the local rodeo secretary (make sure she signs the bottom section). Show your membership card as proof of insurance to medical people and collect all bills yourself and submit them to the address on the top of the form. Remember the high school insurance is a secondary insurance. Claims against your own personal insurance will be 1st - unless the high school rodeo insurance is the only insurance that is being carried - then it will be primary.
Medical Release / Veterinary Release - If a contestant meds or vets out of a rodeo/cutting, the release must be signed by a doctor or veterinarian and be turned into the State Secretary within 72 hours of that rodeo/cutting.
Medical Release from Rodeos - NHSRA Rule book, page 26 (c) , A contestant with a visible injury or illness may turn out of any event at a rodeo without a doctor’s written excuse provided notification of such turn out is authorized by a judge or National Director at the given rodeo. If a contestant has drawn out with a visible injury he/she must have a doctor’s release to resume competition. A contestant that has been injured and has received medical care at a hospital or urgent care facility must have a doctor’s release before the contestant is allowed to resume competition. If a contestant has presented a doctor’s release to draw out, he/she must present another doctor’s release to resume competition.
