Montana High School Rodeo Association

Welcome

The Montana High School Rodeo Association (MHSRA) is one of the 41 states, 5 Canadian provinces, and Australia that is involved in the National High School Rodeo Association (NHSRA)

Founded in 1947 by Claude Mullins, there are currently 12,500 students in the NHSRA competing in over 1,100 sanctioned rodeos every year. MHSRA members compete at the state level for local recognition and the top four contestants in each event then qualify to compete in the National High School Finals Rodeo held in July. At the NHSFR over 1,500 contestants compete for national titles, awards and scholarships. By being a student member of the MHSRA, contestants also have an opportunity to be awarded college scholarships and scholarship assistance for continuing their educational careers. The NHSRA is an independent student athletic association that relies on the financial assistance of sponsors. For more information about the MHSRA, follow the links on the left and contact any of the directors or secretary.

Montana Musings

IN REMEMBRANCE OF ADRIANNA JOHNSON:  The weekend before High School State Finals Adrianna Johnson was killed in a car accident south of Ronan.  Adrianna Johnson was a past Jr. High and High School member and is the granddaughter of Mike and Rocky Knight.  Rocky is a former State Director of the MHSRA. Our thoughts go out to the family at this terrible time.

CONGRATULATIONS AND GOOD LUCK TO ALL OUR JR. HIGH AND HIGH SCHOOL NATIONAL QUALIFIERS!

Jr. High State Finals bids are open for 2019, 2020 and optional 2021.  Please e-mail bids to the Jr. High State office at mtjhra@mhsra.com by August 1st.  Presentations will be given at the State Board meeting in Lewistown on August 18, 2018.  If you have questions you may call the Jr. High State office at (406) 464-2002.  Thank you!

NEW STARTING THIS FALL:  All Jackpot is Mandatory and will be paid per rodeo, not on the Average.  High School contestants will pay $10 per event, per rodeo, and Jr. High contestants will pay $5 per event, per rodeo.  Jr. High State Jackpot is now Mandatory, not optional.

Vet Release Rule Change: Any member wanting to vet release out of a rodeo will pay a $30.00 per event per rodeo fee, with $20.00 going to the rodeo committee and $10.00 going to the MHSRA. If fees are paid for both rodeos and a contestant needs to vet out for the next day, said contestant has the option to have fees returned tothem but will still pay the $30.00 per event vet out fee. This was voted on and passed at the June 7th 2017 board of directors meeting.

Day Sheets for the rodeos:  Will be posted under "Forms", and then "Day Sheets".  REMINDER:  The Order of Events are SUBJECT TO CHANGE.  It is the responsibility of the contestants to be there on time.

For online entering information go to the Forms page under Entry information.
