student officers

Hello Everyone! Hopefully you're enjoying the winter break.  Amy, Jeana, Allie and I just got back from the mid-winter meeting in Denver with Heidi and Mike.  It was a good time, we even got to experience our first sheep feed lot...yum!  While we were there we went to meetings discussing plans for the MHSRA and some other issues.  It has already been set that this year and the next that high school nationals will be held in Rock Springs, Wyoming and junior high will be in Gallup, New Mexico.  There were proposals presented for 2014 and 2015 sites, and as of now it looks like high school nationals will continue in Rock Springs, but junior high will move to Des Moines, Iowa.  There was also some talk on statewide level changes.  There is an idea to create a MHSRA "permit."  This would allow for interested students to obtain a permit and be able to rodeo one weekend.  After that they could decide if they wanted to purchase a full membership and continue rodeoing, or just be done.  For this to take action the MHSRA Board would have to discuss costs and other aspects of the permit, then vote on it at the next meeting.  I am just asking for you to share your thoughts and ideas with any student officer or other board member.  It would not take effect this season and is currently just an idea to think about.  One last thing is our National Director position.  Mike will be passing on his office after Nationals in July.  However, the new director will be decided on Sunday of the State Finals rodeo in June.  Mike holds huge responsibilities and we hope that our new director can fit into the position just as well.  So talk to your state directors and officers to ask about what all a national director does and get information on the current status.  *Remember to get your trailer tickets sold and turned into Rhonda Nordahl.  Enjoy the rest of your winter, see you in March!  -Raegan

Hey Everyone! It's your student VP Allie Novotny with just a few things to bring to your attention.  First of all the officers need your help...bad.  Every year states put together a national basket at the NHSFR and we need ideas.  Last year Montana made a basket that was full of tools and we're looking for something original and realistic for this year's basket.  In you have any ideas please let me know!  My email is novotny5@q.com and just send me any ideas you have and I will bring them up to our directors in charge of the basket.  Our student officers along with Heidiand Mike just got back from a wonderful trip to Denver and listening to some states on certain matters really made me realize how lucky we are.  Many states have to go online, print out an entry form, and mail them just to enter each rodeo.  Thank God for our ladies who take our phone calls every week during the season, I'm sure they wouldn't mind being thanked every now and then!  Another thing that was very interesting and made me realize how lucky we were, was the fact on how many fundraisers states had to put on just to afford their state finals and many gave out very few scholarships.  Our single fundraiser provides us with our state rodeo, scholarships, money for nationals and silverstate, and shirts/jackets for those who qualify.  Doesn't it make sense to sell as many of these tickets as possible?  To enter State each student has to sell 30 tickets by April 30, 2012, they must sell 40 by February 1st in order to receive $100 towards any high school rodeo approved school or clinic, and 50 in order to be provided with incentive at Nationals which can add up to $1000!  Now only this but if you sell in the top 20% you get 10% of all the money you made for the association back.  The Cowboy Hall and Wall of Fame is coming up January 28th and it's a great place to sell tickets.  Sell those tickets everyone and keep warm!  See you in the spring!

Hey everyone! Hope your winter is going great.  Me and the other officers just got back from the National mid-winter meeting in Denver.  We had a blast meeting a lot of new people and learned a lot of things and how the National meetings go.  I would like to inform all the bareback riders that you may have vertical slits on the back side of your hand but absolutely NO slits on the palm side.  Well can't wait for the spring season to start and see everyone! -Amy Nordahl
