There are several unique opportunities that are available to MHSRA members.
Congratulations to Wyatt Lytton! Wyatt has been honored by receiving the Student Athlete 2011 National Champion award from NHSRA. This is the first time a Montana rodeo athlete has been honored with this award. Congrats to you, Wyatt.
The Professional's Choice Student Athlete of the Month program began in 1999. This NHSRA program rewards one girl and one boy each month with a Professional's Choice Air Ride Saddle Pad and qualifies each monthly winner for two $1000 scholarships (one boys and one girls) to be awarded at the end of the rodeo season. To be eligible for this honor, students must submit an application to the NHSRA national office in Denver. As part of the application procedure, applicants must answer questions regarding extracurricular activities, volunteerism, goals, and submit a 150-word essay, as well as a letter of recommendation. Each month winners are featured in the NHSRA Times. Scholarship winners are announced at the National High School Finals Rodeo each year.
Past Montana members honored include Wyatt Lytton (Ronan) - May 2011; Hanna Heckman (Choteau) - March 2010; Tammy Williams (Dillon) - March 2003; Holly Matz (Missoula) - March 2004, January 2005, and June 2007; and Sarah Guenzler (Ronan) - February 2005.
To apply, download the 2011 - 2012 Athlete of the Month application. To be considered, the National Office in Denver must receive the completed forms and supporting materials by May 1st. We'd love to see our Montana members in an upcoming issue of the NHSRA Times!
The AQHA/NHSRA state boy's and girl's Horse of the Year winners receive an award in recognition of the top American Quarter Horse and will also be eligible to compete for the boy's and girl's national AQHA/NHSRA Horse of the Year at the National High School Finals Rodeo.
Any questions regarding this program can be directed to the National office by calling (800) 466-4772. The application can be found on the Forms page of this website and clicking the 2011 - 2012 Horse of the Year application link. As you can see from the list below, there are several scholarship opportunities that are available to graduating MHSRA members to assist with their college educations. Scholarships are awarded to Senior boys and girls who are active members.
The MHSRA Scholarship Committee encourages each graduating Senior member to participate and attempt to earn these scholarships. This 2010-2011 season all senior members in good standing who submit a scholarship application by the deadline below and participate in the interview process will be awarded a $300 scholastic scholarship to match all MHSRA scholarship criteria.
The MHSRA Scholarship application is a Word document consisting of a total of six pages (one page cover letter, one page of explanation, and four pages of scholarship application). They must be postmarked on or before June 1, 2011. No late applications accepted. NO EXCEPTIONS!
